The holiday season is back in full swing for 2009 and although there was a lot of speculation about people not travelling abroad this year for financial reasons that does not seem to be the way people have reacted and holidays across Europe the Canaries and North Africa in particular are as popular as ever as people head for the sun to escape the pressures at home.
There is no less variety this year but there is a wider trend in the types of holidays people are going on. The beach is still the most popular destination from the Spanish Costa’s to the Greek Islands to new popular destinations such as Bulgaria.
But more people are also seeking out other things to do and to see on their holidays such as the exotic sites that Egypt has to offer with the Pyramids and Nile cruises. Many others are seeking action holidays with surfing, kite boarding and even parachuting as a background to their summer getaway.
Of course climbing, hiking, fishing, diving and many other activities are as sought after as ever, if not more so. For the majority though the ideal break is two weeks sat by the pool or on the beach reading a book or fooling around with the kids followed by a good meal and a great night out at a bar or pub serving up cheap drinks and great entertainment
It is no more important than ever to make the right preparations for your holiday, searching the internet for a good flight or package deal is the place to start with some patience you can find a real bargain that will get your holiday off to a great start.
You should book your insurance at the same time as your holiday so that you are covered against cancellation or other possible problems effective immediately. It is not a good idea to leave it until later as cover only begins when you take it out and you save nothing by delaying cover.
Insurance should never be seen as an optional extra, but an essential to cover your holiday, your belongings, and most importantly potential healthcare costs that may arise while you are on holiday.
Be sure to pack the right clothes and accessories, it may be hot during the day but do you need a jacket at night? Is where you are going prone to heavy rainfall so that you need an umbrella?
Other must have items include a good high protection sun cream, all your prescription drugs and any other medicines that you may need, You might also want to make sure that your passport is not about to run out, consider how you want to carry your money, with credit cards being a popular option make sure that you have funds available and that you have any other items you may need such as a driving licence to make your 2009 holiday one to remember.
